4.2.16 (frame 44

In patients with mitral stenosis and other causes of obstruction at the mitral valve level, atrial fibrillation is a common occurrence. Its presence prevents the diagnosis of a left atrial abnormality due to left atrial enlargement and makes the ECG diagnosis of right ventricular hypertrophy more difficult. This is illustrated in this tracing from a 58 year old female whose chief complaint was shortness of breath on exertion.
