3. The principle in physics known as Kirchhoff’s Law states that the algebraic sum of electrical currents around a closed loop is zero. If, as shown here the positive-negative orientation in lead II had been reversed, such that the right arm was positive and the left leg negative, a closed loop would nave been created and the sum of the electrical forces in leads I, II and III would equal zero (I+II+III=0).
