
Six of these leads, leads I, II, III, aVR, aVL and aVF, record from electrodes placed on the left and right arms and the left leg (the lead placed on the right leg is connected to ground). They record information occurring in a right to left and superior to inferior orientation and as such, record in the frontal plane. They do not reflect information occurring in an anterior-posterior orientation since this direction is perpendicular to the recording plane.
