The six leads placed on the chest, leads V1 through V6, record information occurring in an anterior/posterior as well as a right/left orientation. These electrodes also record limited information in the superior/inferior orientation because they are placed at slightly different levels on the chest wall. Leads V1 and V2 are placed in the 4th intercostal space (V1 to the right of the sternum and V2 to the left), leads V4, V5 and V6 are placed in the 5th left intercostal space and lead V3 is placed between leads V2 and V4.
