The intracellular ionic events resulting from inhibition of the NA/K pump also increase spontaneous diastolic depolarization in cells having pacemaker capability(upper panel) and may cause delayed afterdepolarizations (lower panel) in non-pacemaker cells, the result of changes in intracellular calcium.
