The use or rate dependent effects of the class I drugs on the sodium channel are manifest electrocardiographically as a rate dependent effect on the duration of the QRS complex. This figure,  from the work of Ranger et al (Circulation 79:100, 1989), illustrates the use, or rate dependent effects of flecainide on QRS duration.
