The plateau phase of the action potential - Phase 2, or the phase of slow repolarization - represents a period when the slow calcium inward current is opposed by the slowly activated potassium outward current. There is little net charge transferred during this phase. The plateau phase of the action potential corresponds to the ST segment of the electrocardiogram which extends from the end of the QRS complex to the onset of the T wave.
